PA PAST PLAYERS

Sarah McKim Sarah McKim
1813 – 1891
Carlisle, PA

Sarah McKim was the wife of James McKim, a prominent abolitionist and Presbyterian minister. Like her husband, Sarah McKim was a strong supporter of the anti-slavery movement and became good friends of William Lloyd Garrison, Frederick Douglas and Harriet Tubman.

Following the execution of abolitionist John Brown in 1859, the McKims helped his widow, Mary Ann Brown, by assisting in the recovery of her husband’s body. In addition to abolitionist causes, Sarah McKim devoted her time to causes of women’s rights, children’s rights and animal rights.
